Meet the Bakers!

  • Millie's Morsels

“I’ve been baking for most of my life but last year, when I was feeling particularly down, I realized I needed to prioritize my joy and came back to baking. It was the lifeline I needed at the time as I was transitioning out of a difficult job. I’m a home baker but I was recently accepted to the NWPAMade cohort program with the hopes of eventually moving to a commercial kitchen/storefront. Millie’s Morsels is named after my corgi, Millie and I primarily do custom cakes, cupcakes, and sugar cookies. “

What flavors are you making? “It’s a Secret!”

Why did you decide to join Cupcake Wars? I’ve been very open about my mental health journey and I think it’s vital because you never know who you are inspiring or encouraging by doing so. We all face struggles and by sharing them, we can significantly lessen the weight—a burden shared is a burden halved. “

  • Cynthia Kuerner - Lulu's Cupcake Emporium

“I am a full time Dental Hygienist and mom. Baking is my hobby and I do it with lots of love! I started baking sweet treats for my family and friends from my home, they shared with their friends and family, I saw an opportunity and applied for my LLC, I currently bake my sweet treats in a church kitchen, so grateful they allow me to bake there! The end goal is to have my own cupcake truck so I can spread cupcake love to anyone who needs a sweet treat ! “
What Cupcakes are you entering in the event? “I’m not sure yet. I hope to have something for everyone.”

Why did you decided to enter Cupcake Wars!? “I am supporting Journey because I feel it is important to send out a positive word for mental health. I feel we have all been affected by mental health issues in some way, directly or indirectly. Anyone dealing with any kind of mental issue should feel safe and comfortable expressing how they feel with no judgement and have the tools to find the right resource. Health is wealth, mental health shouldn’t be any different. “

“I’ve loved cooking and baking since I was a kid! Some of my fondest memories are with my grandmother making cookies and cakes in her kitchen. Now, baking relaxes me and helps me get my mind off of life. There are only two of us at home and we can only eat so many sweets, so I don’t get to bake all that often right now. When I heard that I’d have the opportunity to bake 4 dozen cupcakes, I jumped at it!”

What flavors are you bringing to the competition? “Wouldn’t you like to know… and so would I!”

Why did you decide to participate in J:HT’s Mental Health Awareness Month kickoff? “I know so many people who struggle or know someone who struggles with their mental health. In a time where loneliness has been identified as a major health hazard, having non-profit support systems in place like JHT is critical to help meet the needs of these people.”

  • Brittany Brown

Baking is my love language. I have been spreading joy with sweet treats since I was in high school. Nothing brings me more joy than someone loving a dessert I made. And according to my 10-year-old son I am the best baker in the whole world. “
What flavors are you making for Cupcake Wars? “I haven't decided on my flavors just yet. My family will be having their own version of cupcake wars to help me decide on the flavor I will be entering with.”

What made you decide to compete? “Baking is how a deal with my own anxiety. For me there is something very calming about following instructions and ending up with a sweet treat. It felt meant to be to have a baking competition that also supported Mental Health. “

  • Noah & Alberto

Meet one of our bakers in the youth category. Noah (16) and his dad Alberto are baking you up some delicious treats that (as of the time of the interview) are still secrets! Noah decided to enter the competition because he likes baking with his dad. Journey has a special place in Noah’s life so he was motivated to enter the competition through gratitude. Rather than share his own face, he wanted to share a picture of his grandparents’ new puppy, so meet Josie.
